First-year engineering students to tour Omaha industries Oct. 10

More than 550 first-year engineering students will tour Omaha on Friday (Oct. 10) to delve into careers and opportunities for engineers in the greater Omaha area and throughout the state of Nebraska. This day-long learning opportunity is in collaboration with the Greater Omaha Area Chamber of Commerce, and is the third such tour, with previous trips to Grand Island and Columbus.

Freshmen from Nebraska Engineering’s Lincoln and Omaha campuses will begin their day at TD Ameritrade Park and CenturyLink Center in north downtown Omaha at 8:30 a.m. The students will break into small groups (about 20 students each) and tour the park with professional engineers.

Mid-morning, the student groups will spread out across Omaha for insider tours of the following companies/areas: Harriman Center/UP, ConAgra Campus, NRG, OWH Freedom Center, Riverfront (MUD), Gallup IT, Gene Leahy, Holland, Capitol District Project and ConAgra Foods.

The groups will return to the CenturyLink at noon for a Company Expo and Keynote Lunch. They will also have the opportunity to participate in 20x20 with Young Engineers.

The events conclude with 1:30 p.m. mini track tours of the following companies/areas: MUD Florence Water Plant, North Omaha Power Plant, UNMC Cancer Center project, UNMC Biomedical, Claas, Conductix, Valmont Industries, Lozier, UNO Arena, Acieta and Cabela’s Data Center.

At 3 p.m., students will depart for their home campuses.
