Capstone projects take center stage at Senior Design Showcase

Industry Communications: Summer 2023

More than 30 teams of graduating seniors from across the college of engineering participated in the 2023 Senior Design Showcase at Nebraska’s historic NU Coliseum on Friday, May 12.

Projects on display included everything from medical devices and water filtration systems to an autonomous weed trimmer and solar powered remote controlled airplane. One project outshone them all: “Statistical Process Control of Filter End-Cap-Fill-Weight Via External Weigh Station” captured the “People’s Choice Award” for 2023. Students Grant Meyer, Caleb Osmond, Merjen Palvanova, Ryan Salisbury and Samuel Whitney impressed attendees with a prototype device that accurately measures, records and tracks trends in end-cap fill weight using live statistical process control software. The prototype was featured in several demonstrations throughout the afternoon.

More than 140 students participated in Nebraska’s premier undergraduate engineering student design event. These capstone projects are the culmination of hundreds of hours of research, creativity and effort, and are designed to make a positive and lasting impact.
