Chemical Engineering showcases ERC research space for advisory board meeting

Industry Communications: Winter 2023

Shudipto Dishari, Ross McCollum Associate Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, took time from a busy schedule to take members of the Chemical Engineering Advisory Board on a tour of the new Engineering Research Center on City Campus as well as talk about groundbreaking research she and her students are doing at the new facility.

The Oct. 26 meeting included a visit to Dishari’s lab and a presentation from her students entitled “Polymers, Interfaces, and Nature!” along with an update on Designing Ionomers for Clean Energy Devices, research supported by an award from the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and Nebraska Center for Energy Science Grant among others.

Additionally, Dishari and her students talked to the advisory board about the importance of doing outreach activities to not only publicize their research but to work closely with Nebraska STEM teachers on an innovative curriculum to include coursework on polymers made from greener materials.

The 87,000 square foot ERC is home to labs from across the college with an emphasis on materials, biomedical topics, and light-matter interactions. It’s part of the college’s $75 million Phase 1 facilities project funded in partnership with the Nebraska State Legislature and the university that includes renovating Scott Engineering Center.
