Workforce readiness and preparing STEM graduates for the future were the themes around the 2023 American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Midwest Section Conference at the Nebraska Union in September. The College of Engineering hosted the conference, which featured papers and sessions on industry collaborations, panelists and workshops on workforce preparedness, diversity and inclusion, entrepreneurship, integrating technology into the classroom, and more.
Co-chaired by Sohrab Asgarpoor, Ph.D., associate dean for undergraduate programs, and Jena Shafai Asgarpoor, Ph.D., CPEM, professor of practice and director of the Master of Engineering Management program, the seminar included a keynote address on Sept. 11 from Doug Durham, CEO and cofounder of Don’t Panic Labs in Lincoln, and keynote speaker Shonna Dorsey, executive director of the Nebraska Tech Collaborative on Sept. 12.
The three-day conference was supported by Visit Lincoln and the UNL College of Engineering and engineering faculty and students from Kansas State University, Kansas State University – Salina, the University of Kansas, Missouri University of Science and Technology, the University of Arkansas, Arkansas State University, Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma, and University of Missouri at Columbia.
