Assistant professor of practice and two-time Olympic medalist Curt Tomasevicz, Ph.D., has been named director of Sports Performance for the Lake Placid, New York-based USA Bobsled/Skeleton, which is the governing body for the sports of bobsled and skeleton in the United States.
Tomasevicz, a member of the 2010 gold medal Olympic four-man bobsled team, and the 2014 silver medal Olympic four-man bobsled team, is a Shelby, Nebraska native and a graduate of the UNL College of Engineering, earning a Ph.D. in biological engineering in 2017, and a master’s (2006) and a bachelor’s degree (2003) in electrical engineering. Prior to USABS, he was a performance research analyst conducting sports science research at the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory (NAPL).
As USABS Director of Sports Performance, Tomasevicz will be responsible for developing strategies to support athletes from recruitment to retirement, working closely with coaches and his performance staff to further support bobsled and skeleton athletes.
“We’re excited Curt has rejoined the team in a new capacity,” said Aron McGuire, USABS CEO. “I’m confident that his experience as an athlete, his continued involvement with USABS and the USOPC, his education and his work at the University of Nebraska will align with the responsibilities of the role.”
A nine-team world champion medalist, Tomasevicz retired in 2014 but remained active as a member of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee Athlete Advisory Council and as an athlete representative on the USABS Board of Directors. Additionally, he was a member of the Nebraska football team from 2000-2003 and where he earned Academic All-Big 12 as a linebacker.
