Longtime mechanical engineering professor Wolford passes away at 99

James C. Wolford, a longtime former mechanics and mechanical engineering professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering and author of four engineering textbooks, passed away on Dec. 1. He was 99.

Wolford taught in the College of Engineering for 35 years, reaching the status of Professor Emeritus and earning numerous teaching awards. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME), American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), the Engineers Club of Lincoln and three engineering fraternities – Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma.

He was born July 20, 1920 in Fairmont, Nebraska and was a World War II Army veteran and a Midwest Golden Gloves boxing champion.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17 at Sheridan Lutheran Church, 6955 Old Cheney Road. Visitation with family present will be 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16 at Roper and Sons, 4300 O St. Memorials can be directed to Sheridan Lutheran Church of the donor’s choice, and condolences can be made online.
