But that knowledge isn't enough if it isn't deployed in the real world. To make sure that happens, the Elmer E. Koch Professor of Engineering and Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering runs a social media operation dedicated to technical knowledge.

Her book, "Computers as Components," was the first textbook on embedded computing and has been used around the world for 20 years. She has written a shelf full of books on embedded computing and computer engineering.

Her blog provides the teaching materials – including labs and overheads -associated with her books. It also provides running updates on developments in embedded computing technology and observations on the state of the industry.

Her "Embedded Systems Channel" on YouTube.com features content from her books and covers topics such as the range of embedded systems applications, the latest in processors and tools, and the fundamentals that are used to create a wide-range of embedded systems.

Wolf holds an Extra Class amateur radio license - her call sign is W2MCW. She enjoys thinking about radio design at least as much as operating radios.

Wolf received her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University before joining AT&T Bell Laboratories from 1984-89. Before coming to Nebraska, Wolf was on the faculty of Princeton University for 18 years and was Farmer Distinguished Chair in Embedded Computing Systems and GRA Eminent Scholar at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

She is a co-founder of Verificon Corporation to commercialize smart camera technology. She has developed a number of techniques for embedded computing, and her research areas have included embedded systems, video and computer vision, and VLSI systems.

Wolf has received the IEEE Computer Society Goode Memorial Award, the ASEE Terman Award, and IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Education Award. She is a Fellow of the IEEE and ACM and a Golden Core member of IEEE Computer Society and has been elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi.
