The Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program in the College of Engineering is ranked ninth in the 2023 U.S. News & World Report's rankings of Best Online Master's in Engineering Programs, and sixth in the same category for veterans.

The 2023 MEM ranking represents a jump of eight spots from No. 17 in the 2022 rankings.

The MEM program, offered in eight week sessions, collaborates with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln online Master of Business Administration program (ranked 19th in the 2023 rankings) and offers diverse courses in engineering management leading to a professional practice-oriented degree that combines business acumen with technical operational knowledge and skills necessary to effectively lead engineering and technical people, projects and teams.

Jena Asgarpoor, Ph.D., program director, noted that Engineering Management as a discipline is flourishing.

"Several top universities have started offering it at the graduate level. To be ranked No. 9 in the face of such fierce competition validates our program's top quality of instruction and unmatched services," she said. "And I am elated that we are ranked as a top online engineering program for veterans. We appreciate members of our military and are honored to be of service for their graduate education."

Nebraska's MEM is a 30-credit-hour program for working professionals in engineering, technology and science industries. It is one of nine programs internationally certified by the American Society for Engineering Management for exceeding rigorous ASEM standards and for its excellence in curriculum, program delivery and administration.

"High student retention rates and targeted time to degree completion are among the reasons for this ranking. Our faculty are seasoned engineering managers who combine their industry experience and teaching expertise to design and deliver dynamic and relevant courses with immediate on-the-job applications," Asgarpoor said.

Asgarpoor said students in the program are engineering professionals with families and full-time industry jobs.

"We have tailored our program to help them strike work-life-school balance, and they notice. In exit interviews, graduates praise our asynchronous online delivery; student centric faculty, staff, and administrative policies and practices; expert faculty with industry and teaching experience; and our high-quality programming and content."
