The College of Engineering started Discover Engineering Days to introduce middle school students (grades 6-8) and their teachers to the various fields in engineering and the engineering programs offered at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The event is hosted by the college's outreach organization and is filled with hands-on activities that apply engineering habits of the mind such as collaborative, problem solving, creative, and critical thinking skills.
Students are responsible for bringing their own sack lunches.
As the only engineering college in the state of Nebraska, we are dedicated to STEM outreach for your students. If you were interested in attending DED on a date that is now full or cannot make one of the dates, please feel free to contact the college for other outreach opportunities. Along with Discover Engineering Days, the College of Engineering is happy to work with individual schools and classrooms to:
- Provide reading materials about engineering and our Nebraska programs
- Provide K-12 Engineering curriculum resources and activity recommendations
- Schedule in-class presentations conducted by The Engineering Ambassadors Network
- Arrange visits to either our Lincoln or Omaha campuses.
For more information on these possibilities and many others, please contact Rachel Rose.
Release Forms
Teachers, please have students’ parents complete the Youth Safety and Photo Release form.
The registration form should be completed by the teacher or chaperone responsible for the student or group. Please note that you, your teachers and/ or the chaperones are expected to accompany the students in their rotations throughout the day and maintain classroom management. We also require at least one teacher/chaperone per 20 students.
