Woollam named National Academy of Inventors Fellow
John Woollam, George Holmes Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering at UNL, has been named a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. His work in spectroscopic ellipsometry helped Woollam to earn the distinction, which is accorded to academic inventors who have demonstrated a prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development and the welfare of society,

Grad student takes first place at IHEEP convention
Tyler Schmidt, a graduate research assistant at UNL's Midwest Roadside Safety Facility, was awarded first place in the student presentations on Oct. 1 at the International Highway Engineering Exchange Program Conference in New Orleans. Schmidt earned a $1,000 prize for the presentation of research into the development of a low-maintenance, energy-absorbing vertical barrier that could be used to decrease the severity of vehicular crashes on urban highways.
Five engineering students among homecoming royalty
Five engineering students - Joseph Farley (mechanical), Zach Foster (chemical), Shane Manning (agricultural), Mary Pistillo (mechanical) and Claire Uryasz (biological systems) - are among the 20 UNL students chosen as homecoming royalty finalists.
Morcous chosen PCI Educator of Year
George Morcous, associate professor of archictectural engineering, was honored as the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute's 2014 Educator of the Year on Sept. 7 at the institute's annual convention in National Harbor, Maryland. Morcous also received a $1,000 prize from PCI.
