The Engineering Academy is determined to provide our scholars with access to resources to support their careers in engineering, computing, and construction, and want them to shape the future workforce of Nebraska. Our goal is to have our students participate in numerous hands-on opportunities to develop the skills needed to achieve long-term success.
Professional Development Funding
A spectacular perk of the Engineering Academy is that our student receive a $5000 professional development stipend that they may use to support their personal growth. Our students utilize these funds in a variety of ways such as
- Attending conferences
- Participating in education abroad experiences
- Personal and academic projects
- Cover the cost of internship housing
- Upgrading software and technology sources, etc.
It is thanks to these funds, our students have been able to further their education and prepare themselves for the workforce. Below, you can see some of the ways our students have used these funds.
Industry Connections
Developing strong relationships with Nebraska industry is a top priority of the Engineering Academy. We want our students to have at least one internship or research experience in Nebraska and use a variety of tools to help them learn about and secure positions to give them a hands on experience. Here are some of the ways our student's professional growth:
- Industry Tours with Nebraska companies
- Assigning all of our students to meet with a Faculty Fellow
- Developing a Strategic Industry Partners program
- Bringing professionals into our seminar classes and professional development programs
- Requiring all scholars to develop and regularly update their resumes and conduct mock interviews
