Information on ITS account migration to nebraska.edu

The first week of September 2025, ITS will be "migrating" College of Engineering affiliated accounts to their new consolidated Microsoft system.  They are calling this "Future Ready Cloud Collaboration Workspace", aka FRCCW.  We'll be updating this page often as we learn more about the implementation.

For everyone migrated, your NUID@nebraska.edu is the login account to access most services (you will have to login with this account to get your email, on any computers or smart phones that are tied to your email).

The important thing for most faculty will be that OneDrive and SharePoint links will change.  If you put any OneDrive/SharePoint links into Canvas they will need to be updated post-migration.  If you've shared them with other people, you will likely need to share them again, at least until the other person has migrated (if they are UNL affiliated people).

The information here will try to cover most things, but will not cover every scenario.

Post Post-Migration (missed computers, SharePoints, etc longer term)

All employees of CoE should now have migrated, and you still have systems that use the UNL-AD login, those still need to migrate.  At some point in the future ITS will be shutting down the UNL-AD system and we will need remove all systems from those logins.  Please contact us or submit a ticket to nusupport@nebraska.edu and we can work on getting that migrated.  If it is a lab machine or primarily student accessed machine, those will probably best be moved in December-January, but they can be moved at anytime.  That may depend on what they are used for.

If you are missing a SharePoint that you used to own, let us know.  If you did not own it, and do not have access, you will need to contact whoever does own it and have them re-invite you to the site.

And if you are missing a Shared Email account or something let us know and we'll have them migrate it or find what its status is.

Issues

A major issue that has happened for many Engineering people that migrated is that their email to an off-campus location does not show their @unl.edu email address, but shows the @nebraska.edu email address.  This causes issues with at least Canvas & Mailman (the mailing list manager).  Off-campus locations should see @unl.edu.  On any campus emails (UNL, UNK, UNO, Nebraska) should show your @nebraska.edu address.  Some on-campus emails are showing the @unl.edu email, however if you hover over the address it may show very old data (wrong titles, wrong department, etc).  If your email to an off-campus address is showing up as from an @nebraska.edu address, please submit a ticket to nusupport@nebraska.edu.

2025-09-16:  The following seems to be fixed.  It seems to have something to do with people with Success Hub advising access and how that ties into your calendar:  There are also issues with the mailman mailing lists NOT delivering to all recipients.  We've ticket in to ITS about this but have not heard back.  It appears to be random who does and does not receive email from a mailing list, but it does appear to be consistent.

Post Migration Support

First you need to check to ensure you are on the network.  Either eduroam or wired (if you're on-campus).  [If off-campus you also need the VPN turned on].  After logging on with your NUID, start Teams, and LOGOUT of Teams.  Then in the search bar in the lower left, type the "On Demand Migration Desktop Update Agent" (Typing 'On D' should be enough).  Run that once the start button highlights.  You'll need to click Start several times.

If something goes wrong after your migration day and you can't login to your computer or to your email, or if you see something missing that did not migrate (Teams, SharePoints, etc).

If your Windows Computer shows "NEAD" underneath where you type in your username, then your computer migrated properly (though you do need to ensure down in the lower-right corner that you are on the network before trying to login).  If it says "UNL-AD", then it either failed to migrate, or was never flagged to migrate (we likely missed systems).  If it says UNL-AD, you should be able to login as your normally would.  But it needs to be migrated.

Where to get help Post Migration:

ITS has a migration Zoom TAC Room you can join at https://its.nebraska.edu/tacroom.  This will have the most people on it.  If you can get logged on to your computer this is likely the best place to get help.

CoE Migration Timeline

The migration timeline has mostly been set.  It's according to the following.  We migrate on six days.  Migrations start on the given day at 6pm (18:00) CDT and can go until 6am (06:00) CDT the next day.  You should not use your University Email, computer nor SharePoints/OneDrive during the overnight migration.  Some larger SharePoints may take longer.

One complication is that our first batch for the Dean's office groups is that it our migration starts on Labor Day Monday.  Computers will need to be left on before the weekend.

Migration--things we've learned

PRIOR TO MIGRATION

To help ensure a smooth transition, it will help you if:

You take a screenshot or photos of SharePoints and Teams you have access to.

Save any Teams Chats you want into a Word file or something similar.  Chats do not migrate well at all.

If you  have a unique signature(s) for your Outlooks, save it/them.  Note that the cloud and app may be different.

And of course run a sharing report on any OneDrives/SharePoints you have.

Morning of Migration

It's in the instructions, but log on to the network if you need to.  VPN for Windows users at home.

Look for 'nead.nebraska.edu' under where you type in your username.  If it's not there, you did not migrate.  If it's there, login with your NUID for a username.

Windows: Run the 'On Demand Migration Tool' (search for 'on d' should do it.

Lincoln Voicemail to Email Changes (NEW 2025-08-26)

An additional step for those with the Unified Voicemail  from telecom (ie Voicemail to Email) MUST visit this form after migration. This also applies to those that have Cisco Jabber (soft phone), and a few other services.  Check your email #2 from ITS about the migration for more details.

Their email stated:

ITS Telecom

The following services require updates to their configuration after migration: Cisco Jabber (Softphone); Unified Voicemail (Voicemail to Email); T-Metrics ACD Agent; and Nice Call Recording. If you use any of these ITS Telecom services please fill out the following form: https://go.unl.edu/telecomfrccw.

ITS Zoom Sessions (including recordings and slides from CoE in-person meetings)

The College of Engineering had an in-person migration meeting with ITS.  The video of that is available here.  It's about an hour long.

There is another CoE specific session after faculty are due back on August 20th from 11-12PM via Zoom ONLY.   Register here for that event.   Watch the Zoom recording.  Download/View the Presentation Slides (at least until September 1st when we migrate!)

As you know from reading the news, ITS has on-going weekly informational sessions at 13:00 Mondays and Tuesdays.  The first 20-30 minutes of each week is a very similar presentation, and then it goes into a Q&A session.  You can attend every week if desired.  The CoE specific meeting above is the equivalent of the Monday meeting.  But if you have questions, you can certainly join on of these and ask.

7. Weekly info sessions offered

Accounts

Your primary "account" to login to Windows computers (currently tied to UNL's Active Directory, UNL-AD) and MS365 products (Email,SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, etc), will change from hhusker1@unl.edu, to NUID@nebraska.edu (and be tied to NEAD, where NUID is your 8 digit NUID) Your login to most other services will not change (Canvas, Adobe, and Zoom for example).

Your email address will not change.  However, during the transition (of everyone, not just CoE) your email to internal (ie UNK, UNO, OOP) addresses will be hhusker1@nebraska.edu.  People outside of the university system will/should still see your @unl.edu address.

Email

Your email address will not change.

However, during the transition, internal people (other NU system people) will see your address as @nebraska.edu until the full migration of all of NU is complete.

Access to shared email accounts and calendars may fail until the shared emailbox is migrated.  For Engineering, this will likely be the same day, unless you have access to mailboxes outside of your department.  Shared mailboxes should migrate when the main user(s) migrate.  If students primarily use the mailbox, then it should migrate with students at the end of the Fall Semester.

You may want to test your email to an off-campus address to ensure it is sending the proper @unl.edu email.  Some folks have had their off-campus mail show up as @nebraska.edu.

Canvas

All links to SharePoint and OneDrive will need to be updated after migration.  Migrating close to the start of the semester will alleviate some of this, however, if you have links in past Canvas courses, migrating those Canvas courses forward will have links that do not work.

Faculty with Teacher roles in Canvas can click here to view a report of where they have SharePoint/OneDrive links.  This likely only covers courses that are offered via the Registrar.  Sandboxes, training courses, etc are probably not covered in these reports

Also note that this is for ALL previous OneDrive/SharePoint links in Canvas, not just the current semester.  If you have OneDrive/SharePoint content from previous years that you will eventually want to move forward (ie copy the course) you need to make note of that now.

OneDrive / SharePoint/MS Forms/OneNote

All OneDrive & SharePoint links will change as all files are migating to a new 'tenant'.

OneDrive & SharePoint shares will also change.  Shares inside UNL should function properly as long as the person it has been shared with has migrated.  If they have not, you may need to (temporarily) share back to the person using their UNL identity.  If your access to another SharePoint/OneDrive was via an emailed 'link', that will need to be re-created and re-shared by the content owner.

NOTE!: If you have spreadsheets in MS365 that refer to cells in OTHER spreadsheets in MS365, those references will break!

MS Forms and OneNote data DOES NOT MIGRATE. You must save that ahead of time.  For more info on this, see this link.

Lincoln Computer Labs & College Classrooms

The college and department computer labs in Lincoln managed by college IT have migrated to the nebraska.edu logins before classes started.  Users will login to computers with their NUID.

2025-08-15:  Lincoln:  All Kiewit Hall classrooms and teaching labs have migrated to NEAD.  SEC classrooms C271,C314, and C341, and NH W213b, W347, and W357 have migrated also.  All have a small sign telling users to login with their NUID.

UNO Information Emailed 2025-05-01

This was emailed by UNO to those with UNO based credentials (and with an Omaha work address?) which includes some UNL Engineering faculty & staff.  This is mostly "FYI", but it does contain useful information.

Our understanding is that any UNL Engineering based UNO accounts will be migrated in September when Engineering migrates.

Information from ITS & UNL

This is the information provided by ITS.

The first 9 days of September 2025, ITS will be "migrating" College of Engineering affiliated accounts to their new system.  They are calling this "Future Ready Cloud Collaboration Workspace", aka FRCCW (they pronounce it as Fur Cow).

First Migration Email from ITS

Everyone should have received an email similar to this, with proper dates/days filled in:

Notice of 9/X Migration

Future Ready Workspace Project<futureworkspace@nebraska.edu>

frccw_unl_0xx@lists.nebraska.edu

Greetings,

The evening of DAY, September X, your email, OneDrive, and computer(s) will be migrated as part of the Future Ready Cloud Collaboration Workspace project. That evening, you will need to leave your campus work computer(s) on campus and plugged into a power source to facilitate the process. If you need to have your computer(s) off campus that evening, you will migrate using the virtual private network (VPN). Whether your computer is on or off campus, you will not be able to use it between 6:00 PM and the following morning when you return to work. You will receive additional email notices a week in advance and the day of your migration with additional instructions.

If you work on a Windows desktop or laptop, sometime prior to your migration day a pop-up will appear and prompt you to restart your computer. This is part of preparing your computer for migration. After your computer restarts, you can continue working.

When the pop-up appears, please take a moment to ensure your desktop or laptop is powered on, plugged into a power source, and on the university network.

  • For desktops and docked laptops that are on campus, they are plugged into an ethernet cable, so there is nothing additional to complete.
  • On campus computers using wifi need to be connected to the eduroam wifi network
  • Off campus Windows computers need to connect via the VPN.

This restart applies to all University-managed Windows desktops and laptops (including secondary machines).

Please note the following:

  • Your move is part of a twelve-month migration at UNL.
  • Departments are being migrated together to make collaboration easier and to provide migration support.
  • Department SharePoint and Teams sites will be migrated in parallel with the department moves.

Interested in learning more? Project overview sessions are offered via Zoom every Monday @ 1:00 PM CT; join here: https://nebraska.edu/frccwpinfo

Sessions focused on Navigating Microsoft365 (specifically SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams) during and after migration are offered every Tuesday @ 1:00 PM CT; join here: https://nebraska.edu/frccwpm365

As a reminder, this project is part of President Gold’s Odyssey to Extraordinary initiative. It will dramatically simplify collaboration between campuses, eliminate the need for multiple identities for those with multiple roles, and enable the adoption of bundled Microsoft 365 services, starting with Microsoft’s Copilot AI tool.

Questions can be directed to nusupport@nebraska.edu.

Thanks,
