The fermentation development laboratory is a non-GMP space for small scale process fermentation process transfer and development. Scale-up from shake flask studies is performed in 19 L Bioengineering fermenters (14 L working volume) with a design similar to the 200 L fermenter in the GMP facility. The lab has a separate anaerobic area, dark room, and shake flask inoculation/incubation area.
