About Shudipto Dishari

Dr. Shudipto Konika Dishari joined as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at UNL (2016- ). Dishari has been a post-doctoral researcher in chemical engineering (PI: Andrew Zydney) and materials science and engineering (PI: Michael Hickner) at the Pennsylvania State University. She graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Ph.D. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.

Dishari's research focuses on designing synthetic and bioderived ion-conducting and light-harvesting polymers. Dishari explores the fascinating nanoscale phenomena within polymeric thin films and membranes. Her work targets to impact energy conversion and storage devices, chemobiosensing, and biotechnology applications. For pursuing research on innovative polymer design and understanding of material interfaces, Dishari received prestigious awards, like, DOE Office of Science Early Career Award (2019), NSF CAREER Award (2018), ACS-PMSE Young Investigator Award (2023), 3M Non-Tenured Faculty Award (2021), Edgerton Innovation Award (2021), NUTech Venture Emerging Innovator of the Year Award (2020), and Baxter Young Investigator Award (2014). In recognition of her teaching excellence and academic promise, Dishari received ASEE Midwest Outstanding Teching Award (2024), ASEE Midwest Conference Best Paper Award (2023, 2024) as well as UNL Distinguished Teaching Award (2023), Holling Family Master Teacher Award (2023),  Harold and Esther Edgerton Junior Faculty Award (2019) and Henry Y. Kleinkauf Family Distinguished New Faculty Teaching Award (2020).

Dishari is the elected Vice-Chair (2022-2023) and Chair (2023-2024) of Area 8A (Polymers) of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and an associate editor of an ASME journal. She is an active organizer of symposiums in national meetings through platforms, like, American Chemical Society (ACS), American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), American Physical Society (APS), and North American Membrane Society (NAMS).

Dishari serves in the UNL Chemical Engineering Graduate Committee, and the Advisory Committee of Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience (NCMN). She has served in UNL's "Complete Engineering" initiative and "Diversity and Inclusion" Taskforce. Dishari is also members of NCMN's  and UNL College of Engineering's "Education and Outreach Committees," and greatly involved in educating K-12 students, including women, minorities, and first-generation college students.
