Student engineers from UNL's Air and Space Research (ASR) test a gap spanner in the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, in early June. The device was designed as part of the NASA Micro-g NExT Challenge.

The darkened channels, or xylem, of an avocado tree in Miami-Dade County, Florida, can be seen after the tree is cut down. An infestation of redbay ambrosia beetles has killed 500 million avocado trees in the southeastern U.S., and UNL chemical engineers are working on ways to speed up early detection of the beetles.

The UNL Quarter Scale Tractor A-team took first overall and the X-team took third at the ASABE International Quarter Scale Tractor Student Design Competition in Peoria, Illinois.
