Construction program golden anniversary celebration: Call for Luminaries

In the spring of 2025, the Durham School is gearing up to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of its Construction Program, which has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of construction education for over 55 years. The Golden Anniversary celebration is slated to take place in April 2025 at the school's new home on the City campus in Lincoln: the state-of-the-art Kiewit Hall.

The College of Engineering welcomes 13 new faculty for the 2020-21 academic year.
August 31, 2020 - The College of Engineering has added 13 new faculty for 2020-21, increasing total faculty hires to 58 over the past four years. The new faculty include five in Computer Science and Engineering and three in Civil and Environmental Engineering.  Full Story

August 07, 2020 - A team of Nebraska architectural engineering students took first place in the HVAC System Selection category at the 2020 ASHRAE Student Design Competition, which drew many teams from across the U.S. and the world.  Full Story

In March 2019, flooding along the Loup River between Genoa and Monroe wiped out roads and left some homes surrounded by water.
July 30, 2020 - Pop-up courses, like those studying the recovery from the March 2019 floods and he COVID-19 pandemic, are helping the College of Engineering and students to connect to real-time issues with immediate impact.  Full Story

Prefabricated modules, such as those created for apartments or hotels, could be quickly converted for use in constructing facilities on hospital sites to house more patients during a pandemic. A team of Durham School researchers is hoping to study those techniques as one of many tasks in a new Department of Energy NREL grant.
June 19, 2020 - A U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) grant is allowing a team of Nebraska Engineering researchers to tackle many projects with the need for quick solutions, including a couple currently addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.  Full Story

June 11, 2020 - Two Durham School Master of Architectural Engineering (MAE) students were selected by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Research Institute’s College of Fellows Scholarship Committee to receive 2020 scholarships.  Full Story

Fadi Alsaleem and colleagues believe that fever-related data from Kinsa thermometers is offering a much-needed empirical perspective on the effectiveness of social distancing — and could help preview the outcomes of relaxing such guidelines.
June 10, 2020 - Fadi Alsaleem is part of a team that is exploring how data from Bluetooth-connected Kinsa thermometers may help forecast COVID-19 hotspots in Nebraska up to weeks before new outbreaks are officially reported.  Full Story

Justin Humphrey (right), who graduate this spring with a degree in civil engineering, recently received his military commission as a second lieutenant in the Air Force. He is one of six 2020 Nebraska Engineering graduates and ROTC cadets to receive commissions.
May 15, 2020 - Six recent graduates of the College of Engineering were among the 26 University of Nebraska-Lincoln ROTC cadets who became officers in the military upon receiving their commissions May 8-12.  Full Story
