The Grand Challenge Scholars Program elements are very customizeable to your major and interests. You must complete requirements for each of the Components, but how you complete each component is mostly up to you. Other opportunities not included in the outline below might be available to you, but all activities must be approved by the GCSP committee or your faculty advisor.


Curriculum Overview

GCSP Component #1: Research/Creative

Select one (1) option:

  • Option A                      Undergraduate Research
  • Option B                      Internship/Co-op
  • Option C                      Thesis
  • Option D                      Other/Special Topics

GCSP Component #2: Multidisciplinary

Required:                     Approved non-engineering course

Select one (1) additional option:

  • Option A                      Seminars and/or Conferences
  • Option B                      Interdisciplinary academic minor
  • Option C                      Other/Special Topics

GCSP Component #3: Business/Entrepreneurship

Select one (1) option:

  • Option A                      Business Plan/Pitch Competition
  • Option B                      ENTR and/or MNGT course
  • Option C                      Capstone Project/Senior Design
  • Option D                      Other/Special Topics

GCSP Component #4: Multicultural

Required:                     Approved ACE 9 elective

Select one (1) additional option:

  • Option A                      Study Abroad/Study Tour
  • Option B                      Engineers Without Borders (EWB)
  • Option C                      Seminars and/or Conferences
  • Option D                      Other/Special Topics

GCSP Component #5: Social Consciousness

Required:                     ENGR 100/0 , or other approved course

Select one (1) additional option:

  • Option A                      Engineering Ambassadors
  • Option B                      Volunteer/Service experience (40 hrs.)
