Multicultural Engineering Program

What to Expect

Year One: Smooth Transition

  1. Take advantage of MEP study hours on the same night(s) every week. This provides MEP students an opportunity to complete their academic assignments, or to connect as a community.
  2. Meet monthly with your success coach for 1:1 academic success coaching.  Topics may include:
    • Establishing academic, social and personal goals for each semester.
    • Exploring study skills and time management strategies for academic success.
    • Discussing options for summer, including study abroad, internships, research, or volunteering.
  3. Attend 2 MEP workshops or events each semester. These will contribute to your academic, professional, and personal success in college.
    • Attendance at workshops and events hosted by our campus partners is highly encouraged. For example, attending one event related to a career topic, one related to an academic or professional topic, and two social events for the year.
  4. Suggested Goals:
    • Join a student organization that interests you.
    • Find a "favorite spot" on campus for studying and one for hanging out.
    • Become familiar with academic and support resources across campus.
    • Go to the career fair for the first time.

Year Two: Focus on Your Major

  1. Meet 1-2 times per semester with your success coach for 1:1 academic success coaching. Topics this year may include:
    • Reflection on past summer and creation of goals for upcoming summer.
    • Review what worked last year and what did not. Establish academic, professional, and personal goals for the upcoming semesters.
    • Formulate ideas about your post-graduation plans and ways to gain experience.
  2. Attend 1-2 MEP workshops/events each semester. These will contribute to your academic, professional, and personal success in college.
  3. Suggested Goals:
    • Obtain an experiential learning opportunity, such as study abroad, research, or an internship.
    • Meet with your Career Services Coordinator for career coaching.
    • Attend career fairs and networking events.
    • Connect with a faculty member.
    • Increase your involvement on campus.

Year Three: Career Prep

    • Maintain your involvement on campus.
    • Advance your leadership position(s) on campus.
