P3 - 2018 Project Overviews

Projects partially funded by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality’s Waste Reduction Fee Fund:

  1. Paul Barnes - Hormel Foods
Analyzed water and energy usage. Made recommendations to reduce costs, energy and water usage, and greenhouse gas emissions.

  2. Evan Beckmann - inExhaust™ - Innovative Exhaust Solutions, Inc.
Analyzed electrical energy consumption, wood pallet usage, and insulation waste removal. Made recommendations to reduce the waste in the production process and energy usage.

  3. Baron Huntwork - Thermo King
Analyzed water usage and the paint system. Made recommendations to reduce the energy associated with the water usage and paint system.

  4. Sarah Kenny - McCain Foods
Performed waste assessment for the company. Made recommendations to reduce the waste and increase the volume of the packaged product.

  5. Adam Perry - Pacific Aurora
Analyzed water and energy usage. Made recommendations to reduce costs associated with water, natural gas and electricity usage.

Projects partially funded by grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency:
  1. Justin Brinkman - Western Sugar Cooperative
Evaluated the current water treatment and management, heat loss from pipes, and packaging. Made recommendations to improve process efficiency and energy recovery.

  2. Willa Koenig - Thermo King
Analyzed waste streams discharged and recommended pollution prevention strategies to reduce solid waste and costs associated with it.

  3. Kaellen Miller - McCain Foods
Analyzed data related to the processing of onions on the production line. Made recommendations on increasing the production output and reducing waste.

  4. Jared Powers - Aulick Industries
Analyzed energy and water usage and wet kits assembly. Made recommendations to reduce costs associated with energy and water usage. Also, determined a more time efficient way to assemble wet kits.

Projects partially funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy:
  1. Samuel Anderson - Nebraska Industrial Assessment Center
Performed energy efficiency assessments and made recommendations to reduce the cost associated with the energy usage.

  2. Clay Keyser - Nebraska Industrial Assessment Center
Performed energy efficiency assessments for two companies and waste assessment for one company. Made recommendations to reduce the cost associated with the energy usage and waste stream.

  3. Mike Kurtenbach - Nebraska Industrial Assessment Center
Performed energy assessments for two companies in the Midwest. Made recommendations to reduce energy usage, cost and greenhouse gas emissions.

  4. Brittney Wilson - Nebraska Industrial Assessment Center
Performed energy efficiency assessments for three companies and prepared energy efficiency recommendations.
