P3 - 2021 Project Overviews

Projects partially funded by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality’s Waste Reduction Fee Fund:

  1. Sidney Matthias
Analyzed solid waste flows to the landfill, and focused on diverting material from the landfill and saving money.

  2. Casey Nolte
Analyzed energy and water consumption and waste disposal. Made recommendations to reduce energy and water use, and improve waste management processes.

  3. Ryan Pilsl
Analyzed energy consumption and process data. Made recommendations to reduce energy usage in the production process.

  4. Mike Sheridan
Analyzed solid waste flows to the landfill, and energy consumption. Focused on energy efficiency and focused on diverting material from the landfill and saving money.

Projects funded by grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency:

  1. Ethan Bowles
Analyzed operations to reduce energy and water use, and reduced product loss into wastewater.

  2. Mason Bowser
Analyzed the waste sludge management process, with a goal of reducing cost and energy use in the sludge management process.

  3. Steve Rundgren
Analyzed energy consumption and process data. Made recommendations to reduce energy usage in the production process.

  4. Troy Teeter
Analyzed operations at a food processor and a metal manufacturer, with a focus on energy use reduction.

Projects partially funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. Each project focused on decreasing energy use and other waste production:

  1. Cassandra Amsden
  2. Elise Gamble
  3. Hee-Chan Han
  4. KokHwa Khor
  5. Darin Schlautman
  6. Yves Cedric Tamwo
  7. Ryker Van Brocklin

Class-only: students with an internship that took the class and completed a small project:

  1. David Brewster
Used life cycle assessment to compare two types of electric pole cross arms.

  2. Adam Schneider
Reviewed the potential to divert foundry sand from the landfill and use in roadway construction in Lancaster County.
